Lyrae variables in Galactic globular clusters IV . Synthetic HB and RR

چکیده
We present theoretical predictions concerning horizontal branch stars in globular clusters, including RR Lyrae variables, as derived from synthetic procedures collating evolutionary and pulsational constraints. On this basis, we explore the predicted behavior of the pulsators as a function of the horizontal branch morphology and over the metallicity range Z=0.0001 to 0.006, revealing an encouraging concordance with the observed distribution of fundamentalised periods with metallicity. Theoretical relations connecting periods to K magnitudes and BV or V I Wesenheit functions are presented, both appearing quite independent of the horizontal branch morphology only with Z ≥ 0.001. Predictions concerning the parameter R are also discussed and compared under various assumptions about the horizontal branch reference luminosity level.

Lyrae variables in Galactic globular clusters
RR Lyrae variables in Galactic globular clusters V. The case of M3 pulsators. Abstract. We use our synthetic Horizontal Branch (HB) procedure to approach the debated problem concerning the adequacy of canonical HB stellar models to account for the observed peaked distribution of RR Lyrae fundamentalised periods in the globular cluster M3. We find that by assuming a suitable bimodal mass distrib...
متن کاملThe Metallicity Dependence of RR Lyrae Absolute Magnitudes from Synthetic Horizontal-Branch Models
A grid of synthetic horizontal-branch (SHB) models based on HB evolutionary tracks with improved physics has been constructed to reconsider the theoretical calibration of the dependence of Mv(RR) on metallicity in globular clusters, and the slope of the mean -[Fe/H] relation. The SHB models confirm Lee’s earlier finding (Lee 1991) that the slope of the -[Fe/H] relation is itse...
متن کاملDouble-mode Rr Lyrae Variables: Pulsational Masses Revisited
Double-mode RR Lyrae variables (i.e. radial variables which are simultaneously pulsating in both fundamental and first overtone modes) appear a fundamental tool for investigating the mass of old Population II Horizontal Branch (HB) stars. The most widespread method adopted for evaluating the masses of these objects is based on the Petersen (1973) approach, which relies only on pulsational perio...
متن کاملA ug 2 00 9 An Oosterhoff Analysis of the Galactic Bulge Field RR Lyrae stars : Implications On Their Absolute Magnitudes
We present an analysis of the period-V -amplitude plane for RR0 Lyrae stars (fundamental mode pulsators) with “normal” light curves in the bulge using the MACHO bulge fields. Although bulge globular clusters have RR Lyraes that divide into two reasonable distinct groups according to the average period of the RR0 Lyraes (Oosterhoff 1939), there is no evidence of a gap between Oosterhoff I and II...
متن کاملRR Lyrae Stars in NGC 6388 and NGC 6441: A New Oosterhoff Group?
NGC 6388 and NGC 6441 are anomalies among Galactic globular clusters in that they cannot be readily placed into either Oosterhoff group I or Oosterhoff group II despite their significant numbers of RR Lyrae variables. The mean pulsation periods, &angl0;Pab&angr0;, of their RRab variables, at 0.71 and 0.76 days, respectively, are even larger than for Oosterhoff II clusters. Moreover, Oosterhoff ...
